It’s common knowledge that sex offenders have a strict list of requirements to be eligible for parole. These include staying away from schools and other gathering places for children as well as registering on the list of sex offenders. A new regulation has joined the list for the state of New York. According to the New York Times, sex offenders are no longer allowed to play Pokemon GO.
This addition has been met with some degree of skepticism. Considering that rules are already in place to distance sex offenders from children, some opponents feel that banning the game itself does not make a lot of real sense. Proponents of the rule suggest that the app could give offenders an opportunity to harm others (even though over 90% of sexual attacks on kids are caused by those close to the children in the first place). It is uncertain whether or not the change will have any real influence on the situation. Regardless, the dialog is probably far from over.
