Niantic has been trying to make many advances in Pokemon Go over the past few months. A new idea that they’re pursuing is called “EX Raids.” The “EX” stands for “exclusive,” which is fitting seeing as how you will have to meet certain requirements in order to participate in these raids. While the requirements will most likely be specific to the certain raid, not many details are available to the public right now as Niantic solidifies their idea. I don’t think that these Raids are a terrible idea, but is it what Pokemon Go really needs right now?
When you look at Pokemon Go as a whole, the entire purpose is to get people out of the house to interact and work together. That’s all well and good, but the social system put into place right now needs some serious work. I mean, where is the trading? Where are trainer battles? Will we ever see a friend system that let’s us see who’s currently out in the world using the app?
Raids have already been put into the game and they have been a great success so far. Why not add something new that people have been begging for? Personally, I think Niantic could be spending their time and resources on implementations that would meet the needs of their playerbase. Instead of reinventing Raids, which already work very well, why not add in some new upgrades? All-in-all, I don’t think this would be a terrible addition to Pokemon Go, but it certainly shouldn’t be Niantic’s main focus right now.
