An interesting discovery has been made by well-known Pokémon GO data miner Chrales. According to an uncovered dialogue sequence, we’ll be seeing a Halloween themed event in the near future.

The text shows the generic placeholder for the player’s name, shown as %PLAYERNAME%. In the game itself, this will be replaced with the username of whoever’s playing. The full text reads as follows.
Oh, %PLAYERNAME%! You’ve dropped by just in time.
As I was out on my regular walk one evening, I stumbled upon this odd stone. Something told me to bring it back to my lab for further research, and ever since then, strange things have been happening.
Papers shifting around, water glasses tipping all by themselves…
When I tried using my computer to research it, I got an error message with the number 108 flashing! %PLAYERNAME%, Can you help gather some data on nearby Ghost-type Pokémon?
I have to believe we can solve these spooky occurrences with science!%PLAYERNAME%, Thanks so much for your help. I did some research on Ghost-type Pokémon, and I think there’s a Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon that is bound to a strange stone.
I can’t say for sure just yet, but it seems this Pokémon may actually be composed of 108 spirits bound together. So maybe if we catch 108 Pokémon, it will appear?
Good luck, %PLAYERNAME%! And… would you keep the light on in the lab for me? All this spooky research is making my hair stand on end.Wow, %PLAYERNAME%! It seems we’ve had a spooky brush with Spiritomb!
I can’t tell if it’s the weather, but I’ve got the shivers! You know, I feel confident that we can solve anything together, %PLAYERNAME%, even when things get scary.
I’ll be in touch soon!
The text is fairly clear as to what we can expect from the Halloween event. After performing a number of ghostly tasks, we will be told to collect 108 Ghost-type Pokémon. Once we’ve completed every task, we will encounter Spiritomb.
Spiritomb’s Pokedex entry describes it as “Spiritomb, the Forbidden Pokémon. As punishment for misdeeds 500 years ago, it was imprisoned in the fissure of an Odd Keystone.” Other entries in different games confirm that the Pokémon is 108 different spirits. While the national Dex marks Spiritomb as #442, The regional Dex for Sinnoh lists Spiritomb as Pokémon #108.
No word as to when the event will go live. We can assume it’ll happen in October, at least.
