First seen by a leak, we can now confirm that Niantic is running a Halloween themed event this year. This time, they’re introducing a handful of gen 4 Pokémon, including the legendary Giratina.

Every year, developers Niantic hosted a Halloween event in Pokémon GO, always in association with Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon. Since the latest generation of Pokémon was recently announced, this event is centered around them. This will be many trainer’s first opportunities to capture Pokémon like Drifloon, Drifblim, Stunky, and Skunktank.

Additionally, players will also be able to purchase new hats, skirts, and backpacks themed after these Pokémon.

And as expected, there will be a special Research quest line that results in an encounter with Spiritomb. This was the major aspect of the previously reported leak.

Lastly, Legendary Pokémon Giratina will also be appearing Raid Battle gyms until November 20. This creature is a dual-type Ghost/Dragon Legendary Pokémon introduced in Gen 4. It’s one of the few legendaries to possess a second form. In the original Pokémon games, this form is attained by giving the Griseous Orb to Giratina to hold while in the Distortion World. It will then transform into the Origin Forme. It’s not clear if this alternate form will be present in Pokémon GO, and if so, how.
