When Pokemon Go was released last year, countless incidents unfolded of unsuspecting players either getting injured or even killed while playing. If you thought texting and driving was bad, so is playing Pokemon Go and driving, or even walking for the most part. Just last week, 57-year-old Jayson Lingen was sentenced to 7 years in prison for striking a 17-year-old in the head with a metal rod while he was trying to catch some Pokemon in the streets of Long Beach.
The motive for his attack is still unknown, but it just goes to show how attentive you have to be while using your phone, especially with a game such as Pokemon Go that really requires your attention and isolates you from your surroundings. Lingen had a history of assault back in 2013, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that his actions repeated. Nevertheless, yet another violent incident is added to the statistics for Pokemon Go players. Be safe out there trainers.
