Meet Chen San-yuan, the elderly Pokémon Go player that’s making headlines in his hometown.
San-Yuan lives in Taipei, Taiwan, where he rides his motorbike rigged to carry up to 11 smartphones, all of which are running Pokémon Go. The sight, paired with his rather active contributions to the local Go community, have earned him the title “Uncle Pokémon” amongst his peers.
He developed mild internet fame when an image of him, on his smartphone-slathered bike, made it’s way to the popular internet forum Reddit. Though he wouldn’t go on to learn about this until he was interviewed by local news channel EXP.GG.
Uncle Pokémon powers his many devices with multiple power packs, allowing him to play as long as 20 hours at a time, Currently at 11 smartphones, he plans to add two more soon.
San-Yuan learned about the game through his grandson. He found that the activity not only helped him make friends but also combated Alzheimer’s disease. Currently, he spends over $1,000 a month on the hobby.
