After much teasing, the weird little metal Pokémon Meltan can be captured in Pokémon GO!
To commemorate the release of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, developers Niantic announced that a new special research questline has been added to the game, featuring Meltan as the final goal.
The new Pokémon originally appeared during a community event a while back. For a few minutes after the event, players would see the Pokémon in the field. But capturing it would result in it transforming “back into a ditto.”
It became the focus of discussion and speculation for a while after, until it was formally announced by Pokémon. Later on, they would also reveal the evolutionary form, Melmetal.
Now players can capture a meltan, and it actually stays a meltan. In order to evolve it into Melmetal, they’ll need a whopping 400 candies.
The commemoration also draws focus on various Kanto region Pokémon that aren’t easily accessible in Pokémon: Let’s Go, such as Kabuto.
Players with one of the Let’s Go games are able to transfer Pokémon between it and their Pokémon GO account, making this one of the easiest ways to get meltan on their console team.
