Since launch, safety has been an important issue for Pokemon GO. It has been discussed alongside privacy as the prime concerns of the general public. Niantic Labs has answered so far by integrating new practices to enhance safety. This includes safety messages that pop up when the game first loads. They also implemented a feature that disables gameplay while moving at vehicle speeds. Even the release of the Pokemon GO Plus wearable could be seen as a move toward safety. With that, players no longer have to divert attention to their phones in order to play the game. However, that may not seem like enough.
According to a recent article on Gamespot, Niantic Labs is looking for another device to help provide trainers with an added dose of safety. There’s very little in terms of what this device could be or how it could help further, though. At most, it sounds like the device is in the pre-pre-planning stages. Take a look at the quote in question below and see what you think.
Together with Nintendo, we are thinking of developing a new device that can be played more safely.
That’s pretty much as vague as you can get. How could Niantic make anything to actually approve safety even more than they have? The only way to be safer seems to be to not play it while driving. Will the new product simply slap the phone away from you if you play with behind the wheel? Is it more subtle than that? Is it just a helmet with a Pikachu design? We are definitely going to need more details.
