Spoofers. They’ve been a problem with the game for as the game has been out. The problem was mitigated when Android phones required their system to report location spoofer to apps. iOS users were still able to trick the game, given enough effort. Now, a flood of iOS location spoofers have been banned from the game.
Users have reported an influx of 1-star reviews on both Niantic’s apps and their google maps listing for the Niantic Headquarters.
What does this mean for us?
It means that we will see fewer bots and spoofers claiming gyms without being there. Don’t expect the problem to go entirely away, as the ability to spoof still exists. Though if you live in an area where those were frequent problems (I know I am), then expect a temporary respite from their overpowered Pokemon dominating your local gym.
Niantic has yet to address the problem with multi-user accounts. I’ve personally seen users using three accounts at the same time. They’ve made my gym going experience rather unpleasant, if I’m being honest. For now, just report users you can confirm to be cheating, and hope another wave of bans happen.
Don’t cheat, trainers.
