First, he admitted that other companies will likely make games like Pokemon GO soon. Just as the market was flooded with Minecraft clones, Pokemon GO will get the same treatment. However, Hanke also mentioned that Niantic themselves are developing new uses for Pokemon GO’s foundation.

[T]hat’s always been our strategy to build up a platform underneath a game that can be used for other games, and frankly other experiences that may not exactly be games, but are still within that area of exercise, discovery, and social interaction.

There is no telling what will come next from Niantic. It could be an identical game based on a different franchise. It could be a completely fresh and new idea. One thing is certain: we can’t know for sure until it happens.
