When Pokemon Go updated to include friends, they also added in “gifts.” These gift items could be given to friends, encouraging you to develop higher friendship levels with other players. Unfortunately, developer Niantic has now nerfed the value of these gifts to nearly 20% what they used to me.
Originally, when you received a gift from another player, it included items often gathered from PokeStops, but to larger degrees. One common example is 10 Pinap berries. Pokeballs and healing items usually came in sets of five. Players rejoiced at the newfound item income. Many expressed excitement in their now-full backpacks.
It seems the gift system was a bit too intensive. Users are now reporting that these numbers are all decreased to one. Players now receive one Pinap berry, one Pokeball, one potion.
Additionally, your ability to hold and give away gifts have been given greater restrictions. You can now only carry five gifts at a time, reduced from 20. You can only open 20 gifts a day, but you can still send an unlimited number of gifts to others. Only one gift can be sent to a friend at a time, however. which means you’re limited to your friends list, and whether or not they’ve opened your last gift yet.
This certainly gives less reason to commit to gift giving, but try to not let that stop you. I need free stuff!
