Everyone’s favorite electric mouse has added another hat to his collection. This time, it’s a black cap.
Developers Niantic surprised Pokémon GO players when they silently updated the game to include a limited time Pikachu variation. This special Pokémon wore a black cap with two lightning bolts on the front. Players also noticed that clothing options for their avatars were now available, baring the same logo.
What is this?
This is actually a new promotional crossover between Pokémon and Fragment, a clothing company, known as Project Thunderbolt. The company is releasing a line of Pokémon inspired streetwear. A few of these items are being represented digitally within Pokémon GO as a promotional event.
This is unlike Niantic’s usual behavior, which is to announce every new Pokémon, change, or update that happens in the game. This time, they were just about silent.
Pokémon GO is no stranger to promotional content. The sponsored PokéStops and Starbucks Berry shakes are clear evidence of this. Perhaps this will mean more in-game content for various real-life items as well. Can you imagine walking around in digital Yeezys?
