Last year, Pokemon GO held a Water Festival event on March 22. It featured a plethora of water type Pokemon like Magikarp and Squirtle. Even though Niantic has yet to say anything, fans are gearing up for a 2018 Water Festival. In which they expect to see new 3rd gen Pokemon.
The first event had an increased spawn rate for water Pokemon for a limited time. Starting on the 22 and ending the 29, players were asked to go fishing as much as possible. This resulted in the capture of 589 million Magikarp. Lucky players even came across a shiny Magikarp or a regular Lapras.
Great work, Trainers! Collectively, you caught over 589 million Magikarp during the #PokemonGO Water Festival.

Interestingly enough, the Spring Equinox is two days before the World Water Day. This could mean another regional rotation will take place. With the Bulbasaur event happening on March 25, we’re up to our necks in events this month.
Be sure to stock up on Pokeballs, trainers. You’re going to need them.
