We missed out on the Pokémon Air Adventures event last year (because.. You know). But things are getting better! Good enough, in fact, that a Pokémon GO/Air Adventures collaborative event will be taking place later this year.
What IS Pokémon Air Adventures?
As you all know, Pokémon has its hands in a lot of different industries; this includes air travel and tourism. Pokémon Air Adventures is a service done with the HIS Travel Agency that schedules tours to various destinations, with Pokémon related activities, merchandise, and even a fully decorated passenger plane.
This event, which we’ll just call the Air Adventures Collab, is a collaborative event between Niantic and this service. As such, it’ll reference things like Flying Pikachu, special outfits, and even destination-specific opportunities.
Special Encounters in Okinawa
Starting on March 19, 2022, and lasting over an entire year, special encounters will be available in the Japanese city of Okinawa (one of the destinations for the Air Adventures tour). This includes Pikachu wearing an Okinawa Kariyushi shirt and Corsola. They might even be shiny.
Outside of Pokémon themselves, there will also be new PokéStops. Each stop is related to a Poké Lid, a special, Pokémon themed maintenance hole cover, which can be found throughout Okinawa. These PokéStops will contain special postcard illustrations not available anywhere else.
Lastly, from May 3, 2022, until May 8, 2022, Flying Pikachu will appear with different colored balloons throughout the city.
Worldwide Air Adventure Collab Details
Every trainer can’t suddenly spring their way across the world to catch Pokémon, though. So for those not wanting to travel internationally, there’s a worldwide event taking place this May.
Starting on May 3, 2022, and ending on May 8, 2022, players can participate in the Air Adventure Collab event. Details about the event itself were not provided, but we imagine it will provide similar opportunities and rewards.
