A new feature is coming to Pokémon Go! Introducing collection challenges, a new option for those looking for more to do in the popular AR mobile game.
Set to launch today (January 5), the feature was first discovered by various players when it had accidentally launched to them a few days early.
Here’s how the new collection challenge system works:
Found within the Today screen, they’re considered part of the Timed Research system. A list of specific Pokémon species will be displayed, giving the player a limited real-time window to collect at least one of each Pokémon on the list. The player will need to actually go out and catch one. Trading Pokémon or evolving an existing one won’t count toward the checklist.
To go along with the new feature, players can also unlock a new profile medal: the Elite Collector medal.
The first collection challenge should start today in part of the Unova event. As such, a list of Unova region Pokémon will make up the checklist. None of the Pokémon will be egg-only, at least. Hopefully that is a component that stays for future collection challenges.
This is a fun, new addition for folks whose favorite part of the game is going out and catching the Pokémon themselves. We hope everyone enjoys it.
