Niantic is launching new monthly event known as Pokemon GO Community Days. This recurring event features unique goals and tasks for trainers to participate in. They encourage teamwork for the events and incentivize participants for their efforts.
Pokemon GO Community Days is essentially Hide-and-Seek. Players are to find and capture a specified, one of a kind Pokemon during the allotted few hours of the event. The first event will take place on January 20 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. PT. In this first event, players are looking for a Pikachu that knows the move Surf. To make the event a touch easier, Lure modules will last 3 hours during this time, as opposed to its standard 1 hour.
Sound familiar? It should! Surfing Pikachu is a recurring easter egg style treat that has appeared in Pokemon games as far back as Pokemon Yellow. In the Game Boy game, players can unlock a surfing mini-game by bringing a surf-wielding Pikachu to a surfboard. Since then the wave riding electric mouse has appeared in games like Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Stadium, and more.
Tactically speaking, an electric type knowing surf makes its a potent adversary against the otherwise immune Ground-type.
Whether or not the event’s Pikachu will be riding board, or simply appear the same as any other Pikachu is unknown, but we can dream, can’t we?
