With iOS 11 coming out later this year, Apple has been working on a brand new ARKit. In response to this, Niantic has posted that they have been working on a brand new mode that is currently in development. This is called AR Playground, and it actually looks pretty cool. In this AR Playground mode, players can place Pokemon from their collection into the environment around them. By tapping on the Pokemon, it will trigger that Pokemon’s animation. In its current state, the Pokemon are quite glitchy and there are plenty of things that need to be tweaked. However, Niantic is making solid progress with this fairly new concept.
There is no concrete evidence that this mode will ever come to players. It is a concept that the company is playing around with, so hopefully we end up seeing its implementation in the near future. If they can’t get the bugs out, this is probably not going to see the light of day. This could open up for a lot more in the AR world. Maybe you can take your Pokemon out to pet, feed, and play with. It would really help players make a connection with their Pokemon and fuel players to open the app every single day.
Until this comes to phones around the world, all we can do is sit around and talk about it. The more people want it, the more likely we will receive it at some point. Hopefully we get it soon, but only time will tell at this point.
