It’s deep into the holiday season. And what is a better way to experience it than by spending money to capture one of the creepiest Pokémon of all time? A special, ticketed-event is happening this weekend, centered around Mr. Rime, the Galarian evolution of Mr. Mime!
If you aren’t familiar, the Galar region of Pokémon is the UK-themed land where the most recent game, Pokémon Sword and Shield, takes place. And like in past games, there are regional variations in this land. Sometimes they even evolve into a completely new Pokémon. In this case, Mr. Mime instead is Mr. Rime, an ice-type counterpart to the psychic Pokémon.
During the second weekend of December, 2020, trainers will be able to purchase a ticket to a Special Research story event. Even if you don’t, a number of special events will be happening at the same time for all players.
The Free For Everyone Event
Starting on December 18, 2020, at 10 AM, and lasting until December 21, at 9 PM, various Ice-Type Pokémon will appear more often in the wild. They will be particularly attracted to Incense as well, making them even easier to catch. This includes:
- Jynx
- Swinub
- Spoink
- Woobat
- Cubchoo
- And more
There will also be an increased chance that players will encounter a shiny Cubchoo.
To further encourage Incense use, the item will be extra effective and will last for three hours instead of the usual one.
The Ticketed Event
For those wanting more, they can purchase an $8 digital ticket. This will gain them access to a bonus mini story, told through Special Research. The event will take place from December 19 at 10 AM until December 20 at 8 PM. During this, players will help Professor Willow discover the source of some strange, icy occurrences that have been happening.
Afterwards, the player will have their own Galarian Mr. Mime, along with enough Candy to evolve them into a Mr. Rime. Other ticketed event bonuses include:
- Special Event Medal
- Encounters with Alolan Vulpix, Jigglypuff, Jynx, Whismur, Chimecho, and Snorunt
- New Avatar Pose
- Three Incense, three Rare Candies, 30 Ultra Balls, three Premium Battle Passes, one Poffin, two Glacial Lure Modules, three Super Incubators, and three Star Pieces.
- Extra Field Research tasks involving Ice-Type Pokémon.
The ticket should be available now via the in-game shop. They are non-refundable. Once you have the research, you can complete it at any time. Though Niantic recommends that you complete it during the weekend event.
