A new quality of life change is coming to the more hardcore Pokémon GO players here soon. The latest update to the game changes the way Appraisals work, making it much easier to understand a Pokémon’s IV stats.
A long-existing aspect of Pokémon is IVs, or Individual Values. These are numeric values set to the Pokémon’s stats when it is created. The higher they are, the better those stats will naturally be. These go along EVs or Effort Values, which increase as the Pokémon fights specific types of opponents. Both of these values are taken into consideration when forming a competitive team.
EVs can be trained into a Pokémon, but IVs are part of their nature. If they have bad IVs, then a trainer has to either get a new one or accept the weaker stats.
When you appraise a Pokémon in the game, your team leader will give you an insight into how good their IVs are. They used indirect wording to explain the values, requiring players to more or less translate.
With the latest update, Version 0.149.0, this is replaced with a visual graph, showing the relevant stats on a bar. This allows for an easier and quicker understanding of your Pokémon’s IVs.
This is a fantastic addition to the game, especially for the players who want the best of the best on their team and have to do countless appraisals.
