With Pokemon GO’s latest update, more than 50 new Pokemon from the 3rd generation have been added to the game, along with a new weather system that will have a dynamic effect on gameplay.
You cant have a new generation of Pokemon without the starters. Treecko, Torchic and Mudkip, the three starting Pokemon from Ruby and Sapphire, will be available alongside a miscellaneous collection of Pokemon from that generation. They will be found most commonly under the right weather conditions.
Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire were the first in the series to implement the idea of dynamic weather. These weather effects would power up or dampen the effectiveness of certain types (fire is stronger in the sun, water in rain, etc.). Pokemon GO has implemented this concept within its own battles. Be mindful which Pokemon you throw out against a Vaporeon when it’s raining.
Niantic’s global product marketing leads, Slemon and Archit Bhargava, describe the new feature as something more strongly felt by series players looking for the best stats, though casual players will still notice the change.
With December upon us, snow is inevitable. Now is a fantastic time to start investing your time and effort into leveling up Ice-type Pokemon, or maybe Fre types to counter the expected increase in Ice types bound to enter gyms.
Bhargava teases that there is still more on the way for Pokemon GO, which will be shared “soon.”
