I’ve got a bad feeling about this. Kazuo Hirai had a recent interview with the Financial Times. Hirai, the CEO of Sony, stated that Sony is now looking more closely at mobile gaming. Why? Because Pokemon GO has been so explosively successful. I have a bad feeling, because adding focus to mobile gaming takes focus away from other areas. That in itself isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but this is Sony we’re talking about.
Another reason for not getting excited is that Pokemon is a unique case. Gamers have been wanting an ARG Pokemon game for years. There was even an April Fools Day joke from Google about it before one was even planned. Correct me if I’m wrong, but Sony doesn’t exactly have anything like that. From that, any move Sony makes in this direction will only appear as pandering or a cash-in move inevitable to fail.
