We’re nearly at the end of April. And when that time comes, a new Pokémon Snap game will release! To commemorate this, Niantic is hosting a photo-centric event in Pokémon GO.
Here’s a bit of context. Back in 1999, Nintendo released a game for the Nintendo 64 called Pokémon Snap. In it, the player moved along a path in various environments, snapping photos of the many Pokémon that lived there. Afterwards, the photos are rated for quality. Despite its success, it wasn’t until earlier this year that Nintendo unveiled a sequel to the game for the Switch, dubbed “New Pokémon Snap.”
As you can imagine, numerous Pokémon fans are excited for the revival. And so is the team at Niantic. Enough so to put together a promotional event that takes place in the week leading up to the release of New Pokémon Snap. Here are the details.
Pokémon Snap Go Event Date and Time
Begins: Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 10:00 AM
Ends: Sunday, May 2, 2021 at 8:00 PM
Both times are based on local time zones.
Pokémon Snap Go Event Details
So what’s special this time around? To start, Pokémon based on the various landscapes within Pokémon Snap will appear. Since this ranges from deserts to jungles, that means more Lotad, Cacnea, and Ducklett. Pokémon like Vaporeon, Meganium, and Trapinch will appear more frequently in raids.
And like usual, one Pokémon will appear more frequently, with increased chances of it being shiny. This time, it’s Smeargle, the painterly Pokémon.
Lastly, there will be a new camera-themed avatar item and gift sticker available in the shop and from PokéStops.
One of our favorite things about Pokémon GO when it came out was the ability to take pictures of them in the “real world.” They made that feature even better when they released a photo mode proper. I hope this event encourages some wonderful photos.
