Another Community Day is here, and it’s following an expected suit with Totodile, the water starter Pokémon of the third generation!
Starting on January 12, 2019, from 2 PM to 5 PM Eastern Standard Time, All Pokémon GO players will notice a surplus of the little water crocodile in the game world. Each one you catch has a chance to have a special battle move unique to the event, meaning you won’t see a Totodile with that move again. The secret move is exactly that, however, a secret. It will be revealed in due time.
During the Community Day event, all lures placed on PokéStops and Gyms will last three hours, instead of the usual one hour. All eggs will require 1/4th of the distance to hatch as well. There will also be a bonus to stardust during this time.
Niantic makes it clear in the event posting that Fast TMs and Charged TMs will not grant the exclusive move, only catching or evolving the designated Pokémon during the Community Day time frame will do it.
What the devs DON’T tell you is that the Community Day Pokémon also has a significantly higher chance of being a Shiny variation than usual. You can play for years without seeing a shiny by normal means, but a dedicated 3 hours is enough to have a decent chance of discovery.
Good luck out there, trainers!
