In their most recent event, Niantic launched the Pokemon Go Easter Eggstravaganza. This was an attempt by the company to bring something fun and unique to the players while also trying to boost the amount of users on the game. On their Facebook page after the event, they posted saying that players had hatched a total of 87 million eggs. There was definitely an increased amount of users logging in for this event to take advantage of the extra experience and chance of getting better Pokemon from lower quality eggs.
While this event did bring people back for a little while, I’m not so sure that it will be a huge success in the long run. As far as short-term goes, the game has some life back into it, but Niantic really needs to keep people engaged. Games like Pokemon Go can begin to feel extremely repetitive, and for good reason. Events and rewards are a must in order for a playerbase to remain large. While we aren’t sure exactly what is in store for the next event, Niantic has hinted that a big one is on its way for the summertime.
Many people will be out of school and college, the weather will be nice, and summer seems like the perfect time to get people out and about in the world. Hopefully Niantic is able to pull something big out of their magic hat for this one. The Eggstravaganza certainly helped the game out for a little while, but people are going to be expecting more very quickly.
