Pokemon GO is officially in the “holiday event” business. Does that mean we might get some kind of anniversary event? It’s true that the date is a long way off, but there’s no harm in speculation. To refresh your memory, Pokemon GO initially released in the United States on July 6, 2016. Thus started the Summer of Pokemon.
I think a special event is definitely in the works. It’s true that Niantic could spring an Independence Day event on us, but that doesn’t seem as smart as an anniversary one. This is especially true since the former is only an American holiday. But if they do decide to host some kind of in-game anniversary party, what will they do?
I definitely think Niantic will go big with this. One strong option is to use that date to release Generation 2 Pokemon. That way, the almost 100 new Pokemon would come out right in time for Summer. The second choice would be to use the anniversary to release the features we’ve been waiting for: trading and battling. Finally, there’s the option to release legendaries.
There’s no way to tell for sure what Niantic will do for their anniversary. In truth, there’s way to tell that they’ll do anything at all. Based on their recent actions, though, I’d say we should expect something pretty special.
